A study carried out in 2015 for the Undersecretariat of the Environment (MMA), under the Environmental and Social Recovery Program (PRAS) for the commune of Coronel, Biobío Region.
Structured in six (6) phases over an urban area of 54.9 km², it included a catalogue of around 80 noise sources, a citizen-participation process, and measurement campaigns for industrial sources, road traffic (53 measurement points) and rail traffic. This information was used to build noise maps by source type and overall, for the daytime and nighttime periods.
The results revealed a significant impact: at night, around 15,700 people were potentially exposed to levels above 55 dBA, and 25.5% of educational facilities exceeded the 65 dBA daytime criterion. The study proposed control measures and drew conclusions on the gaps in the noise regulatory system.
