A study conducted between 2019 and 2020 for the Undersecretariat of the Environment (MMA) as the technical basis for modernizing Chile’s noise-emission standard for fixed sources (D.S. No. 38/2011).
The work systematized the territorial planning instruments of 116 municipalities —home to around 80% of the national population—, measured noise from regulated sources using four international reference standards, and analyzed 50 SEIA projects under environmental follow-up for the noise variable.
This provided the MMA with up-to-date evidence on the application and gaps of the standard in force, offering key inputs for its review.
