A study carried out between 2017 and 2018 for the Undersecretariat of the Environment (Ministry of the Environment, MMA), aimed at characterizing the noise generated by wind-farm operation in Chile and providing background data for its assessment.
The work characterized the noise of six (6) operating wind farms in the country, combining discrete measurement campaigns, 14-day continuous measurements and sound power level measurements of the turbines. Three (3) turbines were measured at each farm, yielding representative data on both the sources and the surrounding receptors.
Based on these findings, the study proposed technical criteria for assessing wind-farm noise, establishing a methodological reference for the sector.
