An update of the noise study for the commune of Coronel, carried out for the Undersecretariat of the Environment (MMA) with a final report in December 2024, incorporating more advanced methodologies than the 2015 assessment.
The work was organized into six (6) streams: a digital terrain model, characterization of road and rail traffic, noise-level modeling, a socioeconomic analysis, noise measurements and continuous online monitoring. Traffic was characterized with 21 counting cameras operating 24 hours, and 2 continuous monitoring stations were installed that send data online to the MMA. The modeling (STL-86 model for road traffic and the FTA model for rail) was validated within ±1 dBA in the daytime period.
The socioeconomic analysis estimated an impacted population of 89,573 people and an impact cost of 263,485 UF/year; the proposed mitigation measures (noise barriers, low-noise pavements and façade insulation) would recover the investment in about 7 years.
